LIFE OF PI Trailer Reveals The Lost Plot Of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

I'm gonna throw this out there right up front: The tiger "character" in the upcoming Life Of Pi is named Richard Parker, the same name as Peter Parker's absentee father in The Amazing Spider-Man.  The adult version of Pi is played here by Irrfan Khan, who also played the seemingly-important-yet-suddenly-forgotten Oscorp executive Mr. Ratha.  Therefore, until someone tells me otherwise, I'm going to assume that the "untold story" of what happened to Peter's parents is that they turned into a zebra and a tiger and got shipwrecked with a young Mr. Ratha, who left them to die on a small deserted island somewhere.  In that case, I can understand why Sony cut that storyline at the eleventh hour.

The film adaptation of Yann Martel's best-selling novel has certainly encountered its share of speed bumps over the years.  A handful of directors have come and gone over the years, and while I would've been intrigued to see Alfonso Cuaron's intended take on the material, I think we probably dodged a bullet when M. Night Shyamalan moved on to make Lady In The Water.  Ultimately we'll see Ang Lee's vision of life adrift at sea with a Bengal tiger, and it really does look like a remarkable vision.

Wow.  That cinematography is just flat out stunning.  When this adaptation was first announced, many claimed the book was essentially unfilmable and it appears that Lee has put that theory to bed.  I haven't read the source material yet but I know it's been the target of more than a bit of criticism, particularly concerning the ending.  We'll have to wait and see how the story plays out on screen, but if nothing else, this thing is sure gonna look pretty.

Life Of Pi hits theaters on November 21st.
