Superman Has A New Mommy

There are plenty of unknowns when it comes to Zack Snyder's new Man Of Steel movie, not the least of which is Henry Cavill as Superman.  The supporting cast, however, is pretty damn impressive by any standard.  Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane...oh yeah, and Russell Crowe as Superman's Kryptonian father Jor-El.

I was more than a little surprised that Crowe would be interested in playing a supporting role, even if he is following in the footsteps of Marlon Brando.  I'm not gonna lie, part of me has been sitting around waiting for an announcement that Crowe is leaving the project, but it looks like I backed the wrong Kryptonian horse.  While Crowe is here to stay, Deadline reports that Julia Ormond is out as Lara, a.k.a. Superman's mom.  Instead we'll get the decidedly not-unattractive-yet-still-boring-onscreen Ayelet Zurer, who's best known for playing Not Audrey Tautou in Angels & Demons.

Ho hum.  Lara's never been a major player in the Superman mythos.  She's usually relegated to a few scenes with baby Kal-El before the planet explodes and perhaps a few flashbacks or voiceovers as the story demands.  However, the continued presence of Russell Crowe (and the fact that General Zod will be the film's villain) might lead one to suspect that Snyder has bigger plans for the House Of El this time around.

So how about a teaser already?
