UPDATED!! Not Self-Lacing But For A Good Cause! THIS IS REAL: Marty McFly's Self-Lacing Sneakers Are Coming

UPDATED: The bad news: The 2011 Nike MAG will not actually be a self-lacing shoe.  Also, Nike only manufactured 1500 pairs.  The good news: All 1500 pairs will be auctioned off on eBay starting tonight at 11:30PM EST at a rate of 150 a day and the net proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to fund Parkinson's research.  We've also got a better look at the shoe itself below:

It's hard not to love the Back To The Future trilogy (Seriously, are there people out there who don't like these movies?  I've never met one.) and the second installment gave us a glimpse at all sorts of exciting future technologies.  Now it looks as if one of those gadgets is on the verge of becoming a reality.

Just over a year ago, Nike filed a patent for what appeared to be the infamous self-lacing sneakers worn by Marty McFly in Back To The Future Part II.  Then, last night BTTF producer Frank Marshall tweeted that "something big" was coming.  While his mysterious comment prompted some immediate fears of some sort of big screen reboot, those fears were quickly allayed when the following video surfaced on YouTube:

Somewhat cryptic, but awesome nonetheless.  At the same time, Nike invited sneaker blog Nice Kicks to the Montalban Theater in LA for the revelation of...something.  The invitation included these bad larrys:

And the final kicker?  Michael J. Fox will be the guest on David Letterman tonight.  This will mark the first time in years I'll make a point to watch Letterman, and it'll be solely for the purpose of looking at Fox's feet.

For the record, this is only serving to further convince me that I'll be able to own a hoverboard within the next four years.
